This partnership provides a simple solution: recyclable privacy curtains, structured collections, full waste traceability, and genuine material reprocessing into new manufacturing streams. No landfill. No energy-from-waste. Just responsible, circular healthcare waste management.

How Our Healthcare Curtain Recycling Service Works
Our six-step recycling process has been designed to minimise disruption on site while ensuring full regulatory compliance and maximum material recovery.
When privacy curtains reach end of life, they are placed into designated recycling bins rather than general clinical waste streams.
Clear segregation guidance ensures curtains are correctly stored and ready for compliant collection. This step alone can significantly reduce waste disposal costs and improve recycling metrics.
When your dedicated bin is full, arranging collection is simple:
- Scan the QR code on the bin
- Complete the online request form
- Or call to book a collection
Collections are scheduled within 48 hours, helping estates and facilities teams maintain storage capacity and infection control standards.
All curtain waste is managed in accordance with UK waste regulation code 20-01-39.
Curtains are returned to Marlux Medical’s HQ in Coleshill, where they are sorted and baled for efficient onward processing. This controlled handling ensures traceability and compliance for NHS procurement frameworks.
A licensed waste management partner collects baled material via scheduled routes and consolidates it at a nearby facility in Tamworth.
By minimising transport journeys, the process reduces carbon impact — supporting wider NHS carbon reduction plans.
All waste carrier licences and permits are available upon request for audit purposes.
Once sufficient volume is consolidated, material is transported to a specialist processing site in the North West.
Efficient load planning ensures optimal transport efficiency and lower associated emissions.
At the processing facility, the curtain material is:
- Shredded
- Cleaned
- Reprocessed into polypropylene pellets
These recycled pellets replace virgin polypropylene in UK manufacturing streams, contributing directly to the circular economy in healthcare.
Instead of becoming waste, your curtains become raw material.
