Prochlorperazine 5mg Tablets (POM) are a prescription-only phenothiazine medicine used to treat severe nausea, vomiting, vertigo, and dizziness from conditions like migraine or Ménière's disease. They work by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain to reduce sickness signals.

Usage Instructions

Swallow tablets whole with water, with or without food; typical adult dose for nausea/vertigo is 5-10mg 2-3 times daily, max 30mg/day, reducing after weeks if possible. Use short-term only (not over 12 weeks); for children over 10kg, 0.25mg/kg 2-3 times daily under medical supervision. Elderly start with lower doses due to sedation risk.

Side Effects

Common effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, and blurred vision, often mild and passing. Serious effects may include muscle stiffness/spasms (extrapyramidal symptoms), neuroleptic malignant syndrome (high fever, confusion), allergic reactions (rash, swelling), or low blood pressure, stop and seek help.

Precautions & Contraindications

Avoid if you have glaucoma, liver disease, severe epilepsy, depression, or blood/prostate disorders; not for under 10kg children or long-term psychosis. Inform doctor of Parkinson's, heart issues, or pregnancy; avoid alcohol, driving, or operating machinery due to sedation.

When to Seek Help

Stop immediately and get emergency care for severe allergic reactions (face/lips swelling, breathing difficulty), uncontrollable movements, high fever with muscle rigidity, or yellowing skin.
