Ambulatory blood pressure monitors (ABPMs) and specialist BPMs are used in GP surgeries and primary care settings where standard digital blood pressure monitors are not sufficient. ABPM devices record blood pressure at regular intervals over a 24 or 48-hour period, giving clinicians a detailed picture of a patient's readings across daily activity and sleep. This makes them the preferred tool for confirming a hypertension diagnosis, identifying white coat hypertension and assessing treatment response in line with NICE guidance.
