Cleaning and care tips

Your 3M Littmann Stethoscope is design to provide years of reliable service. Routinely cleaning your stethoscope will ensure optimal acoustical performance.

• Decontaminating a stethoscope is quite a simple procedure, requiring only a swab impregnated with 70% isopropyl alcohol and wiping the
entire surface of the diaphragm(s)and/or bell. This should be carried out between every patient, and ideally immediately before use.

• The tubing of the stethoscope is often neglected, and we recommend that this is cleaned using a soft cloth moistened with a mild soap solution,
as well as by swabbing with 70% isopropyl alcohol-impregnated swabs.

• A 2% bleach solution may also be used to disinfect your stethoscope; however, with excessive use of this method, the tubing may
experience a slight discolouration after exposure to bleach.

• Do not subject your stethoscope to any sterilization process

• Do not immerse your stethoscope in any liquid

• 3M has become aware that some clinicians are using hand sanitizers to clean their stethoscopes.
Hand Sanitizers contain moisturizers that can cause the single piece diaphragms to swell and fall off, therefore, this practice is not recommended.
